Future of Screen Technology

Pretty cool tech.

Via The Astonishing Tribe -
Capacitive screens has now become a commodity for touch screen devices. Screen technology is now taking the next leap and the coming years imagination is the only thing stopping us. We will soon have dual screens, malleable screens, screens built into wifi connected mirrors, desks or backside of gadgets clothed with e-ink screens, tactile feedback, color screens with great contrast in sunlight, holographics/stereoscopic screens, color e-ink touch screens, or screens actually knowing where they are in relation to other screens thanks to ultrasonic emitters and microphones.
We want to show some of these things in an "experience video", that shows a normal day in a couple of years when all these technologies are affordable enough to be used everywhere. This video is the result of our experiment with open innovation, read more about our experiment here. Big thanks to all the people from TAT and around the world who helped out and sometimes shared their ideas and sometimes gave us homework on our own ideas.

How we view information is constantly changing.
Even our current technology is modified to change the way we view media. The Syte Shirt is a shirt with a see-through pocket for your iPad.

Then if the iPad isn't your thing, there's the WeTab. Applications have support for native, Java, Linux, Adobe Flash, Adobe AIR® and Android Apps. You can actually use an SD card for extended memory.
The options are never ending!

  1. I believe we are a lot closer than people think to this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure it was back in '08 when Microsoft started showing off 'Microsoft Surface'.

  2. Its crazy to think how fast technology is improving. Like today in class whats going to happen to all the jobs if paper were to disappear and we just used internet? No one thinks bout the jobs of ppl that will be lost, but we do think bout how it is affecting our environment. What about the economy?

  3. I think that our generation and the upcoming generations are ready for technology this advanced, but I don't think technology itself is quite ready. Even with today's technology there are major glitches that shouldn't happen. For example, the new iPhone has problems receiving a signal if held a certain way and one has to buy the specified case in order for the phone to receive a good signal. If we are so technologically advanced shouldn't we be able to avoid this sort of problem?

  4. Addicted seems like a harsh way to describe it, but that's just it! One of the first things I do in the morning is check all of my usual websites. Obviously I don't have withdrawals when I don't use the internet for entertainment purposes, but it's definitely part of my everyday routine.

  5. It is interesting how much we rely on the media today. I feel that technology is taking away the chances we have to meet people face to face and have contact. It is amazing to have the abiitiy for al these advances, I just hope we are able to keep the human aspect of interaction between us.

  6. This is incredible. I'm excited to see if and when these ideas come into reality. The constantly changing media has always being kind of awe-striking but think of what technology has advanced to since the earliest stages of the computer, or what have you. The advancement of technology means the advancement of the human race. Perhaps the definition of humanity will even be altered.

  7. Dang it, now I need to take my Ipad back. It's hard to keep up with all the cool gadgets. There are some super smart people out there, I wish I was one of them.

  8. The video was very entertaining. It will be interesting to see how much of it actually will happen. This video reminds me of the one you showed us in class the previous day about the "Wi-Fi Pod". It was an iPod that could connect to the internet, share emails, and find places via GPS. When that video was produced the "Wi-Fi Pod" probably seemed a little silly at the time. Now we have the iPod Touch and iPhone, the iPod Touch can do everything that the so called "Wi-Fi Pod" could in theory and the iPhone can do even more than that! It's amazing what people can do.

  9. Wow, that is some scary/amazing stuff. Mine would get ruined when I batted it off the nightstand in my normal morning manner.
Guess I will be sticking with my ananlog alarm clock at least.

  10. The computer was furnished in the room in old age and we couldn't think we can bring it to outside. The computer may become one of the accessary like a strap. I think some people really stick with a computer and this is very comvenience. But, I want to say that we should try to think again the importance of communication among the people. Sometime, it is important to leave with electronical media device and hang out with friend, chatting family, and do other human communication.

  11. Its pretty interesting to see how far we've come in the very little amonu of time it has taken. It makes you wonder how far our technology will take us in the future.
That style shirt is so cool! Its not necissarily technology but its a way to advertise and communicate with the world! Now I want an iPad just so I can get that shirt!

  12. This is pretty impressive. It is crazy to think how extreme the advancements in technology have been in the last 20 years alone. It is incredible, but it kind of makes me worry a little bit? Because I feel like all these advancements are increasing dependency on these machines. Of course they make our life easier, but I almost feel like we aren't using our full potential. Can you even imagine writing a research paper without the internet? Scanning through the Dewey Decimal System and countless encyclopedias? Forget about it.
